Run 61 - Beaulieu-sur-mer - Gorbio

The plan is to meet in the public car park at the port of Beaulieu-sur-Mer at 10 am. The run will take us up to the Grande Corniche and from there to Fort de la Revère, with its amazing panorama of the coast (pray for a clear day!) and then to La Turbie and Cap d’Ail, up into the hills behind Monaco, and finally to Gorbio to the Beau Séjour Restaurant.

The only thing I haven’t been able to do is to confirm the reservation with the restaurant, although when I was there for lunch on Friday the waiting staff seemed to remember us well. They seem to be closed this evening, and I don’t know if they’re open tomorrow.

Confirmation to follow!!!

Signed Mike P

Sunday, 22 May

St Laurent du Var - St Martin-Vesubie - Roubion

The route:
Meet 10:00 at Boulangerie aux pains de Castagniers which is on the route de Grenoble. Continue past Leroy Merlin, continue past Colomars and continue about 3km further on (river on the left) turn right on roundabout to Castagniers (just past Servotel on the rhs). Immediately straight ahead after turning at the roundabout there is a timber warehouse called Bois Spinelli, turn left in front of the warehouse and the Boulangerie is 50m ahead (chosen for ample parking)

Depart 10:30 turn right and follow the D6202 for about 10km and then turn right on D2565. Continue on D2565 to St Martin-Vesubie where we will try to stop for coffee/pit stop alternatively continue for a further 3km to a cafe where there is ample parking.

Depart around 12:00-12:30 and continue on D2565 until it reaches the D2205 and turn right. Continue about 5km and turn left on D30 to Roubion. In Roubion we need to pass through a very narrow street but there is adequate parking and easy turning. Lunch at Bistro du Pays.

Depart restaurant and either back track to D2205 (quickest route back) or continue to Beuil on D30 and then left on the D28 towards Nice.

Total distance from meeting point to restaurant about 75km and the about the same distance back to the starting point. D30 to Roubion is quite narrow and has some steep parts and tight turns, the rest is fairly easy and very picturesque.

Run 49 - Five Var villages

Meeting point:

If you drive on A8 take exit 39. Continue on D837 followed by D37 towards Fayance for about 4 kilometres. On your left you’ll find our starting point Restaurant Les Arbousiers. We meet here between 10:00 and 10:30. Those who arrive early have time for coffee.

At 10:30 we start the run, which you can see details of using this LINK

The run is 70 kilometres, which will take about two hours to cover. It will take us through five “villages perches de varois”: Montauroux, Callian, Seillans, Bargemon and Callas. If traffic allows we will make a short stop at the town square of Montauroux where there are public toilettes. Otherwise we’ll have the stop in the next town Callian, which also has public facilities.

You bring your own picnic lunch, which we will enjoy at the vineyard Château de Demoiselles

There are several tables with benches available under a big tree in the midst of the vines. See photo below. This means we have shade but no protection against rain. Our hosts don’t charge a fee for using their picnic area, but they hope to see us in their wine store of course. Prices are from 7 Euros per bottle; they also have bag in box wine for 14 Euros (5 litres red, white or rosé).

NOTE. The wine store closes at 12:30. We are still welcome to use the picnic area using what ever drinks we bring. SO DO THAT just in case we miss the opening hours.

When going home A8 is only 15 minutes away.

My mobile is 06.52.97.00.31

If you plan to attend, please click HERE to register by Friday, 17 October

Take the A8 Autoroute eastbound, which then becomes the A10/E74 once you enter Italy. (There is no longer a border control, just a sign advising drivers that they have entered Italy and the signage changes from Blue to Green) After exiting the tunnel "Galleria del Monte" you start to approach the Ventimilglia tool-booth. Do not go through the toll booth, instead pull over about 50m beforehand where there is parking.

The toll-booth is at the first junction in Italy, so as Bruno puts it "You cannot possibly miss it !" (for those that went last year, it is the same meeting place)

Run 27 - The Italian Job!
(Ventimiglia - Camporosso - Dolceacqua - Isolabona - Pigna)

This month we have something really very different crossing in to Italy for a run set by Bruno and Alessandro.

We will meet just over the French/Italian border at 11:15 which will allow us plenty of time a route up in to the mountains to the Restaurant Il Palazzo del Maggiore, which has plenty of parking in an internal courtyard and promises to offer an Italian feast.

The toll-booth is at the first junction in Italy, so as Bruno puts it "You cannot possibly miss it !"
